TechStyles and Fabrication

Creating materials of the future

An emerging and exciting space at Banyule Nillumbik Tech School, we apply the Design Thinking Process to materials and fabrication. Students explore the Sustainable Circular Economy model to examine the impacts of fast fashion and use a range of production methods to create their own solutions.

Students engage in deep thinking about fibres and nature of sustainable resources. This is followed by a hands on practical task, focusing on the essentials of sewing and making fabric from recycled materials. The development of skills such as sewing machine and felting loom operation is the primary focus of this session. Using these new skills, students then design and create a product to a design brief using key design thinking process and refine their skills independently.
